After falling behind, 4-0, in the top of the first inning, San Gabriel Valley stormed back with eight runs in the bottom of the frame to beat Arroyo Seco, 8-5, in a Babe Ruth 16-year-old Tournament first round game last Saturday at Arcadia High. Following singles by Chris Sember and Kyle Wong, Ramiro Carreon doubled to give Arroyo Seco a 2-0 lead. Austin Heyworth then doubled Carreon in to score to up the score to 3-0. Heyworth eventually scored on a wild pitch to give Arroyo Seco a 4-0 advantage.

La Canada Junior Baseball Softball Association held its Opening Day event last Sunday at La Canada High and the cold, rainy weather didn't interfere with everyone having a good time. Several players competed in the Golden Arm Contest and the Home Run Derby Contest while their fellow teammates cheered them on. The division winners in the Golden Arm Contest will receive Juice It Up Smoothies for their entire team. The winners were: Pixie: Katrine Madsen, Rookie: Megan Lacey ,Junior: Maddy Fisher, Senior: Laurie O'Leary, Super Senior: Anna Brenner, Shetland: Trevor Grey, Pinto: Matt Varrevato, Mustang 9: Jonny Brandt, Mustang 10: Grant Owen, Bronco: Joey Hanson and Babe Ruth: John Rodli.

The largest private collection of sports memorabilia in the world, Cypres Sports Museum gave a sneak peek for the first time to guests of Hillsides, a charity that creates safe places for children in foster care and at risk in the community. The charity's benefit, "Going to Bat for Hillsides," raised over $50,000 while giving guests a view of amazing artifacts housed in 30,000 square feet of exquisitely designed and lighted space in downtown Los Angeles. Baseball Babe Ruth Red Sox 12, Angels 2 The Angels got out of the gate early, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Carter Comstock. After that, however, it was all Red Sox. Early season jitters got the best of the Angels? pitchers as they gave up 11 walks and the Sox won the game, 12-2. ? Yankees 6, Cubs 0 The Yanks got the season off to a good start with a 6-0 win over the Cubs. Jacob Yonan, George Steckbeck and David Bywater combined to toss a one hitter with nine strikeouts.

After a long and successful Junior Baseball and Softball season, the playoffs are finally here. There are many upcoming playoff games in the next week and we wish all teams the best of luck! BASEBALL Pinto ? The next round of playoff games takes place on May 29 at Youth House East and May 31 at Mormon Field as the final four face off for a chance to play in the Pinto Championship game on June 2. Both games are at 5:15 p.m. Mustang-9 ? In a very technical bracket, the second round games will take place on May 30 and 31, also at 5:15 p.m. at La Cañada Elementary.

Babe Ruth Dodgers 11, Red Sox 5 Another solid game by the Dodgers, as they were victorious against their nemisis rivals the Red Sox, who had beaten them two out of the last three times. The ace of the staff, Griffin Longo, threw six strong innings before Andrew ?the bull dog? Bartine came in to close the game with his wicked curve ball. Clayton Weirick had a great game and Tyler Zsebik had a triple. The Dodgers are fired up and looking forward to playing the Cardinals.

Baseball Babe Ruth Yankees 9, Angels 4 The Yanks rebounded from two losses to play a solid game Thursday night, defeating the Angels 9-4. Jacob Yonan and George Steckbeck combined for 15 strikeouts, with Jake getting his fifth win of the season. Offensively, the big hits were Clay Smith?s two-run double and Michael Mead?s run-scoring triple. Steckbeck also singled in a run. Ryan Martin singled and scored and David Bywater singled twice and drove in a run. Michael Greenberg, Ryan Gosselin, Matt Lunde and Henry Rowe all drew walks and scored.
