The stirring quote that always pops into my head after seeing spring flowers pop up in our yard is from Alfred, Lord Tennyson: “… in the spring, a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love. “ In truth, the young man reference doesn’t apply here any more, and the love part (since I’m OK in that department) applies, perhaps, to the love of taking a nap in the spring. However, along with the flowering azaleas and rapidly-fleeting wisteria, this season brings spring cleaning.

Na, na, na, na, naaaaaa – I told you! June gloom was here early. Or at least for a couple of days it was. Mother Nature just likes to teach us flexibility. In essence, be prepared. Speaking of being flexible, tomorrow (May 1) is my birthday and it’s a “biggie.” Flexible is a good thing to be when you are on the downslope. I’m working on being better at it. Hard to believe but the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. held its 27th annual Bingo Barbecue fund-raiser.
