It was a rainy afternoon in La Cañada. Surprising weather. I had stopped by Hill Street Cafe for a quick salad. I was in the parking lot when I saw her, revving the engine of a highly polished Anniversary Edition Harley Dyna Lowrider. The bike looked suspiciously familiar. The Junior Girl Scout Troop 223 from La Cañada Flintridge assembled at Rusnak Jaguar in Pasadena to achieve their Car Care Badge. Bambi Wojciechowski and Joannie Raney, troop leaders, focused on the importance of automotive care. "There are many consideration and responsibilities that are involved in automotive maintenance and the Girt Scouts of America feel it is important for young ladies to learn this at a young age," said Bambi Wojciechowski. The girls were greeted by Liz Rusnak Arizmendi, vice president of public relations of the Rusnak Auto Group in the Jaguar showroom where a Jaguar Sports Wagon, Jaguar XK8 Convertible and a Jaguar S Type were displayed.

A special fundraising event, in conjunction with the annual Annemarie Polizzotto Scholarship, will be held by the Crescenta Valley High girls' softball team this Saturday. The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at La Crescenta Church of Religious Science at 4845 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta. The scholarship has been created in memory of Polizzotto, a member of the CVHS junior varsity softball team, who was hit and killed by an automobile last July 23 in San Bernardino while attending her younger sister's Little League tournament.

Excitement is building and committee members are preparing for the Third Annual 2nd Lt. Andrew Torres Memorial Golf Tournament to be held next Monday, July 9, at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Torres, who grew up in La Cañada Flintridge, attended Flintridge Prep and graduated from Annapolis, lost his fight with cancer in 2004 at the age of 23. He asked his parents to help raise funds to fight cancer. Funds raised from the tournament go directly to Huntington Medical Research Institutes, known for their groundbreaking cancer research.
