Bringing baby home from the hospital was twice the fun for six moms who gave birth at Verdugo Hills Hospital last month. Six sets of twins were born at Verdugo in July, a record for the hospital, which had its former record setting event 20 years ago when five sets of twins were born in a one-month period, according to information provided by Celine Petrossian, Verdugo Hills Hospital spokeswoman. ?We were very excited to welcome six sets of twins into the world during the month of July, especially given the size of our community hospital and our average of one or two sets of twins per month,?

It was a 2012 boys' water polo season packed with success from a number of area teams with three squads  -  Pasadena Poly, La Cañada and Glendale high  -  reaching their respective CIF Southern Section division championship games. Only the Panthers realized their dream and won the Division V title with a 12-10 win over the Nitros after having reached the final stage and coming up empty the two previous years. Players from Poly, Glendale and La Cañada, which fell to M.L. King in the Division III final, 14-9, were recognized when the All-Southern California and California-Hawaii All-American water polo teams were unveiled on Jan. 13. Spencer Rogers of the Panthers, Chase Borisoff and Symeon Stefan of the Spartans were both named All-American, while the Nitros' Arman Momdzhyan was an All-American honorable mention.

Friends of the Alex is pleased to announce its Annual Benefit Recital on Wed., May 17. "An Evening of Classical Music with Friends" will be held at the Brand Library Gallery & Recital Hall, located at 1601 W. Mountain, Glendale from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The recital will feature classical musical selections by composers Haydn, Schumann, Alkan, Spendarian and Mozart, in celebration of his 250th birthday. The eclectic program will also include the world premiere of works by Shahnour Nazaretian.

Visiting South Pasadena was no match for the La Cañada boys' junior varsity tennis team on March 28 in Rio Hondo League play at Foothills Intermediate School. The Spartans, showing strength in both singles and doubles action, dropped the Tigers, 14-4. La Cañada will travel to Temple City next Wednesday and will host San Marino at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club next Friday in 3:15 p.m. league matches. In singles, Arman Khachatryan won all three sets, 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2. Teammate Mark Thompson also won all three sets, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2. Ash Oganesgan lost the first two sets, 7-6 and 9-7, but won the third set, 6-4. In doubles, the team of Roy Kwon and Jad Hage won all three sets, 6-1, 6-4 and 6-0. The team of John Kim and Joseph Suh won the first two sets, 7-6 and 9-7, but lost the third set, 6-1. The team of Ron Ueda and Chris Suk won a set, 6-3. The team of James Chu and Suk lost a set, 6-2, and the team of Ueda and Chu won a set, 6-4.

One hundred and sixty-eight young men graduated May 24 from St. Francis High School in La Cañada. Rev. Antonio Marti, the Provincial of the Western American Province of the Capuchin Franciscan Order, represented Cardinal Roger Mahony, archbishop of Los Angeles, at the graduation. D. Allen Lund, chairman of the board of directors; Rev. Matthew Elshoff, school president; and Thomas Moran, school principal, also officiated at the 59th commencement ceremony of the local Catholic college-preparatory institution.

Pavle Atanackovic, Soph,. Forward, Cres. Valley All-Pacific League first-team member finished with 12 goals. Helped Falcons win program?s first league crown. ? Max Cadena, Senior, Defender/midfield, St. Francis Finished with two goals and two assists for six points en route to being named to All-Mission League first team and All-CIF Division I first team. ? Matt Cannata, Junior, Forward, La Cañada Collected 24 goals and 12 assists for 60 points and All-Rio-Hondo League first-team honors.

Although host Temple City and the La Cañada boys' junior varsity tennis team split their sets in their Rio Hondo League match on April 12, the Rams were awarded the victory by having won more games, 89-87. The Spartans traveled to Monrovia for a league match on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. La Cañada will visit Arcadia next Monday and will host Temple City next Tuesday and South Pasadena next Thursday at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club in 3:15 p.m. league matches.

Jordan Bell , Senior Goalkeeper, St. Francis Clutch goalkeeper for St. Francis squad that won CIF Division II Southern California Regional Championship title, he made big save after big save throughout two postseason runs. ? Max Cadena, Junior Defender, St. Francis Named to All-CIF Southern Section Division I third team and All-Mission League second team. ? Matt Cannatta, Soph. Midfielder, La Cañada All-Rio Hondo League second-team selection scored 12 goals and had nine assists in helping Spartans to CIF quarterfinals.
