Local resident Yana Marshall is looking for pre-1980 pictures for a new book about Flintridge that will be printed by Arcadia Publishing. "If anyone is interested in seeing their family pictures in a new book, please leave copies of your favorite images for me at the Valley Sun office," Marshall says. "La Cañada and Alta Canyada will be included. Let your friends and relatives know, as well. It's a good way to preserve our fond memories of this place." Place good quality photographic copies in an envelope, with any information you have about the images, a signed note giving Yana Marshall permission to use the photographs, and your contact information.

Memorable events have taken place in La Cañada over the years. Longtime residents will recall the day in the early ’70s when the president of the United States, Richard Nixon, was delivered by helicopter to the La Cañada High School field, then driven to La Cañada Presbyterian Church to attend the wedding of Maureen Finch, daughter of Nixon’s cabinet member and former lieutenant governor of California, Robert Finch. Of similar vintage, a wildly popular charitable fundraiser, The Freeway Frolic, was held on the lanes of the yet-to-be-opened 210. In the late ’70s, before he wed Diana Spencer, Great Britain’s Prince Charles and his entourage toured the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
