Amherst College senior Annalise Rodli completed four years of varsity softball with her best season yet. Rodli, a 2003 La Cañada High School graduate, batted .398 this season as co-captain for Amherst. She was second in the New England Small College Academic Conference (NESCAC) for stolen bases. She is one of the leading batters in the NESCAC and she is also ranked in the top 10 in the conference for batting percentage with runners on base. Rodli was named an NESCAC All-Conference Academic Athlete.

Taylor Haney enrolls at Amherst Taylor D. Haney , son of Julianne L. Haney and Steven H. Haney of La Cañada Flintridge has enrolled as a first-year student at Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. Haney, a graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School, is one of 438 new students entering the independent liberal arts college.   Bowdoin honors Caitlin Clerkin Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine in the fall held its annual Sarah and James Bowdoin Day ceremony to honor undergraduates in the top 20% of their class for the previous academic year.

Veteran television actor Geoffrey Wade will play Prospero in a 20-minute slice of “The Tempest” that will introduce a new theatrical company making its home in La Cañada Flintridge. Wade, who also boasts Broadway credentials, is excited to become involved with the fledgling La Cañada Flintridge Shakespeare and Conservatory Program (LFC Shakes), which has invited residents in nearby communities to see the dynamics behind the repertory group on four consecutive nights, Oct. 1-4. Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages while the artistic directors share their vision of next summer’s offerings in the Brynes Amphitheater at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy at 440 St. Katherine Drive in La Cañada.

Craig Ballard, Sara Heller, and Erin Miller were named the 2005 Richard Werntz Scholarship winners at the Senior Awards Night held on Monday in the La Cañada High School Auditorium. All three student athletes will receive a scholarship monetary amount of $500. The scholarship is named in honor of Richard Werntz, former social science teacher and coach at La Cañada High. Werntz taught from 1967 to 1981 and was the varsity football coach from 1972 to 1976 and the varsity baseball coach from 1977 to 1981.

La Cañada gymnast captures state title Lauren Ramseyer of La Cañada clinched first place All-Around at the 2007 State Championships for 10-year-olds at in Simi Valley on Nov. 4. She finished with an outstanding 37.075 All-Around score for Level 6. The State Championship meet represents the top gymnasts of the Southern California region. After placing third All-Around in the Eastern Sectional Compulsory Championships, Lauren showed promising potential going into the State Championship meet as a top-10 contender, but because of her consistency and excellent performance on all four of the events, she pulled ahead of her competition and clinched first place All-Around.
