The Crescenta Valley Major Baseball All-Stars went 8-2 in post season play this year. It would be a good record in anybody's book. However the way the post season ended for CV wasn't as positive as it could have been. After winning eight games in a row to get to the Little League Division 3 Tournament last weekend at Stearns Champions Park in Long Beach, CV was riding high. The All-Stars went up against Aliso Viejo from District 55 in a first round game in the 11-and-12-year-old division on Saturday and lost 8-4 to the Section 5 Tournament winner.

It's hard to believe Kathy Bergen is 71 years old. The mother of five and grandmother of nine is in better shape than most 20-year-olds, and is far from the typical senior citizen. In fact, she's a record-breaker. Seven records — six World Masters marks and one American Masters track and field record — have been set by Bergen. She's been named the athlete of the year by the Southern California Striders track club, along with age-group athlete of the year by the National Masters News.

ALISO VIEJO — When last the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy soccer team found itself in penalty kicks, the Tologs' CIF Southern Section playoff run came to a heartbreaking conclusion. But on a cool Tuesday evening in Orange County, Lindsey Espe was the only Tologs player wiping away any tears. And they were most assuredly tears of joy. Espe went from a spectator on the bench to an unlikely hero swarmed by euphoric teammates on the field, as she turned in one of the greatest clutch performances in Sacred Heart soccer lore, stopping three penalty kicks in a 0-0 (4-3)
