With the economy not doing so well lately, many are putting off their dream vacations, at least for the time being. Not so, for those preferring to take this week’s armchair trip with the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada’s Travel Adventures. The tiny island of Corsica, which sits in the Ligurian sea, about 60 miles off the coast of Italy, and the Italian and French Rivieras will be the destination for Saturday night’s guided tour. Traveling to Corsica via the Kiwanis Club Travel Adventures costs $8 and begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, at Flintridge Preparatory School auditorium, at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Crown Avenue in La Cañada.

The Kiwanis Travel Adventure Series will kick off on Oct. 15 with a film on the "Real World of New Zealand". It will be narrated by the filmmaker Rick Howard, who has produced travelogues on the South Pacific and Southeast Asia. The film will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School which is located at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Crown Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge. Pre-program music from the piano featuring Tom Burrows will begin at 7:10 pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

The film "Hawaii Paradise" will be presented Sat., Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School.The third of the 2005 - 2006 Kiwanis Travel Adventure Series will be on Saturday night, Jan. 28, with a film titled "Hawaii Paradise." The film will be narrated by the filmmaker, Dennis Burkhart, an award winning cinematographer whose credits include a wide variety of travelogues and television specials. The film will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School, located at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Crown Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge.

It’s that time of year again. Time to take flight across the mountains, valleys and oceans to discover a world of beauty, adventure and scenery, the likes of which one might never experience without the aid of the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada’s Travel Adventure series. This is the 49th year Kiwanis Club of La Cañada has offered the community a way to beat high gas prices and plane fares to experience an about 90-minute mini-vacation, all for the price of an $8 individual or $40 season ticket.

The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada has announced it will host its 50th annual Travel Adventure Series beginning Oct. 17, allowing armchair travelers to visit the world by enjoying a filmed travelogue. “Bhutan: The Cloud Kingdom,” presented by Tom Sterling, will be the kick-off event for this year’s offerings. On Nov. 21 Mary Lee and Sid Nolan present “Cruising the Eastern Mediterranean”; On Feb. 20, Clint and Sue Denn will present “Egypt’s Treasures & Cruising the Nile”; on March 27, “Inside Iran Today” will be presented by Aryana Farshad; on April 17, “Burma: Reflections on a Hidden Land” will be presented by Patricia Keith and Sean Cassidy; and on May 15, John Holod and Jodie Ginter’s “The Great American Rocky Mountain Adventure” will wrap up the series.

The film will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Flintridge Preparatory School, which is located at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Crown Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge. Preprogram entertainment featuring Tom Burrows piano melodies will begin at 7:10 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $8. Started in the mid-1700s, the canals of England, Scotland and Wales served as the internal transportation system for Great Britain's Industrial Revolution.

Go abroad without leaving the country with The La Cañada Kiwanis on April 18, as the organization presents “Corsica and the Rivieras,” its next program in a series of travel films. Corsica is an island footprint in the Mediterranean with its big toe pointing north to the French Riviera and Italy’s Riviera di Oriente. The film, presented by Stan Walsh , explores all three, the rugged historic Corsica and the glittering coastline of the Italian and French Riviera.
