Flintridge Sacred Heart volleyball sweeps West Ranch

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, West Ranch 0: The visiting Tologs opened their season Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 nonleague win. Katie Conley finished with 11 kills for Flintridge Sacred Heart, which received 10 kills apiece from Kayla Lund and Maddie Peterson. Sophia Coffey contributed 38 assists for the Tologs.

La Cañada in El Dorado Tournament: With the No. 2 ranking in CIF Southern Section Division III, La Cañada started its season with a strong showing in Orange County and took fifth in the El Dorado Tournament.

The Spartans, who went 4-1 in their first week, wrapped up the tournament with a 10-5 victory over La Quinta, which is ranked No. 1 in Division I, in the fifth-place game at El Dorado High.

La Cañada opened with strong wins over Tustin, 18-4, and Laguna Hills, 10-4, Thursday at Tustin High. Laguna Hills was ranked 10th in Division III coming into the tournament. The Spartans dropped their first game of the season to Fountain Valley, 8-7, in overtime of the quarterfinal round at El Dorado High Saturday morning. They rebounded with a dominating 13-3 victory over Redlands and advanced to the fifth-place game.

Junipero Serra 14, Flintridge Prep 9: The Rebels (0-2) suffered a nonleague road defeat Saturday despite competing without three starters due to injuries. They received two goals each from Connor O’Malley and John Treinen.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

La Cañada in Lakewood/Molten Classic: La Cañada debuted its young squad at the Lakewood/Molten Classic and went 1-4, closing it out with a pair of losses to Alta Loma and Monrovia Saturday.

The Spartans fell to Alta Loma in five, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-4, with Taylor Page and Jenna Gray leading La Cañada in kills with 12 and 11, respectively. Page also had 14 digs and three blocks.

Other statistical leaders included setter Leigh Sclafani (31 assists), libero Loren Shin (23 digs) and Melissa Horner (10 aces).

La Cañada was then swept by Monrovia, a Rio Hondo League opponent. Page logged 14 kills and 10 digs in the match, with Shin and Sclafani adding 22 digs and assists, respectively.
