Our city's Fiesta Days celebrations last weekend were bigger and better than ever! There was one wonderful event after another. I liked it all, but my absolute favorite was Sunday night's fireworks show, sponsored by the Allen Lund Co., which is based right here in town.

It is our very own "big bang" of the weekend, with glorious colors lighting up the night sky. There were lots of "oohs" and "ahhs" from the huge crowd that had gathered for the evening-long festivities in Memorial Park, which also featured music by the terrific La Cañada High School Jazz Band.

And of course everyone loves the beginning of our city's Music in the Park summer concert series, which each Memorial Day features the rock 'n' roll cover band, Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries. It is always a sing-along and dance-along time that screams for audience participation. I especially like watching the dancers — especially mommies and daddies dancing with their kids.

Thank you, LCF Chamber of Commerce, for your fabulous coordination of the weekend-long festivities. Hats off to Barbara Marshall and her committee. The 40th annual Fiesta Days was a huge success.

A large crowd gathered at the Pasadena Convention Center for the National Charity League Glendale class of 2014 Ticktocker tea and fashion show.

The theme for the 62nd annual Mother-Daughter Awards tea and fashion show was "Come Sail Away." The fashions were worn by the 11th grade Ticktocker class.

Seven young men from local schools — Joe Mudie and Dante Orlandini from St. Francis; Cole Rademacher from Flintridge Prep; Tristen Afshar, Michael Glidewell and Matthew Schwartz from La Cañada High; and Sebastian Hart, from Poly Technic School — joined the show, doubling as paparazzi and escorts.

Three of the guys from LCHS are twin siblings of three of the participating Ticktockers, Taylor Afshar, Marissa Glidewell and Jenna Schwartz.

Betsy Dillon and her dedicated committee planned the event. There was an opportunity drawing that raised funds for the chapter's philanthropies, including Twelve Oaks Retirement Lodge, Ascencia Homeless Shelter, and Hathaway-Sycamores, among others.

Tea guests were greeted by incoming chapter president Rose Chan Loui, who presented the event speakers, senior award winners Rebecca Weitzel and Amber Zadravecz.
