Flintridge Prep swimming takes to CIF Southern Section Division III prelims

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Flintridge Prep in CIF Southern Section Division III prelims: With an eye on a CIF championship, the Rebels put together some quality performances but may not have advanced as many swimmers to championship races as they need.

Flintridge Prep started strong when its 200-yard medley relay team finished runner-up in one minute, 41.13 seconds. Other Rebels swimmers who kept their chances at an individual title alive were Marco Flores, who took fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:00.99) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.47), and Carlo Sivilotti, who moved on in the 50 freestyle (seventh, 22.23).

The top 10 finishers in each event advanced to the championship race with the 11th-20th swimmers competing in the consolation finals and 21st and 22nd placers being named alternates. The Rebels’ 400 freestyle relay team also moved on to the championship with a sixth-place finish (3:19.69).

Prep’s 200-medley relay team (1:32.81) and Bruce Park both just missed the championship cut with 12th place finishes — Park doing so in the 100 butterfly (55.20). Kevin Park also qualified for the 100-back consolation race (19th, 58.87).

Kevin Park earned alternate status in the 200 individual medley (22nd, 2:09.30) for the Rebels, who also had Gabriel Fernandez take 24th in the 500 free (5:17.16).

Bruce Park also competed in the 200 freestyle (26th, 1:53.46), along with Gabriel Fernandez (31st, 1:55.47) with both failing to advance to Thursday in the race. William Newman took 29th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.36)

Gary Lee took 33rd in the 100 free (51.60) for Prep.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Flintridge Prep in CIF Southern Section Division III prelims: Jennifer Langen advanced to the championship finals in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races Wednesday at Riverside City College.

Langen took third in the 200-free prelims with a time of one minute, 56.97 seconds and finished sixth in the 100 (54.93).

Lauren Au also competed in the 100 breaststroke (29th, 1:17.12) for the Rebels, whose 200-medley relay team took 32nd in 2:07.25. The top 10 finishers in each event advanced to the championship race with the 11th-20th swimmers competing in the consolation finals and 21st and 22nd placers being named alternates.
