La Cañada Flintridge Postmaster Penny Stevenson reported the community donated more than 6,700 pounds of non-perishable edibles during the local post office’s food drive. The items were delivered to the Salvation Army in Pasadena for distribution to families in need.

High winds swept through the area on Dec. 24, 1982, toppling a 100-foot deodar on Green Lane, blocking the driveway of Bill and Sue Watson and impeding traffic on the street. Neighbors and friends of the Watsons turned up on Christmas morning to help cut the tree and clear their driveway.

The first baby born at the newly opened Verdugo Hills Hospital was Trevor James Heady, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heady of La Crescenta. He was born at 12:18 p.m. on Dec. 21, 1972 and weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces.
