Flintridge Guild proud of teen volunteers

June 27, 2012

In 2001, high school-age sons of Flintridge Guild of Children's Hospital members decided they wanted to help their moms in Flintridge Guild and support Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

They formed a group calling themselves TACH that stands for Teens for the Advancement of Children's Hospital. Flintridge Guild was proud to be their sponsor. From that small group of boys has developed a strong group of high school boys and girls who now number over 50. They meet weekly in STEP class at La Cañada High, at lunch, and in members' homes. They work throughout the year to support needy teens served by Children's Hospital. Their fundraising proceeds and drives benefit teen patients and underprivileged teens served by the Adolescent Medicine Division of the hospital.

Each month they have a project. It may mean volunteering as camp counselors at a Los Angeles community center in July and August or collecting backpacks and school supplies in September. Some volunteered to help with homework, play games, or just talk in a gang prevention project in Cypress. They hold bake sales and pizza nights to raise funds for teen programs at Children's Hospital. In November there was a very successful rummage sale at the Community Center. An Irish dance was held in March to raise funds their projects. Their biggest event is TASH Bash, which is held at Memorial Park each June with bands, food and silent auction.

Whenever Flintridge Guild members need help, the TACH members are there.

Along the way they collect toiletries and clothing to give to high-risk kids. These amazing high school students thrill us with their dedication to helping others. They are learning the important lesson to giving. We in Flintridge Guild are so proud of these kids.

They are a real credit to our community.
