A stellar year for La Cañada schools

June 20, 2012

What a stellar year it has been for our La Cañada Unified School District: Girls CIF Softball Champions (again!), the “Hello, Dolly!” and “Dear Edwina” productions, a top rating for our high school in two national magazines, smaller class sizes, an L.A. County Spelling Bee champion (from Palm Crest Elementary) and improved API scores, among many other exciting things.

It has truly been an honor for me to represent the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation as president this past year.

My fellow directors and I are proud to have been a small part of this continuing success story — proving that a great public education is possible in this wonderful community of ours. As we bid adieu to the 2011-12 school year, please reflect on the many defining moments that your child has experienced with our outstanding teachers and administrators at LCUSD this year.

As a community, our fundraising goal this year was to equal or exceed the $2 million that we raised last year. As I write this letter, we have already raised a record amount, slightly exceeding last year's number.

However, the disappointing part is that some families have not participated in this effort. It is said that success has a thousand fathers.

Well, I would love to be able to say that we all produced a record amount for our cash-strapped schools. Even a gift of $100, $50 or $20 can make a meaningful difference.

Please donate at www.lcfef.org/donate or call the foundation office at (818) 952-4268 and let us know that you want to be part of this great success story. Our schools, our future. It's up to us.

If you have given already, we sincerely thank you for your personal financial sacrifice to invest in our public schools and our children.

The generosity and dedication of many of our school families, community members and business partners is truly inspiring.

Have a great summer, and I hope many of you are taking part in the foundation's critically successful summer school!
