Although this ill-advised proposal does not affect La Cañada as much as La Crescenta and North Glendale, many La Cañada residents frequent Montrose, so they should be advised that a portion of Honolulu Avenue is set to lose one traffic lane in each direction to make way for bike paths. As a resident of North Glendale for 45 years, using Honolulu Avenue on a daily basis, I could not agree more when Glendale Councilman Dave Weaver says,” the proposal is a recipe for disaster.” Other than Foothill Boulevard, Honolulu Avenue is the most heavily traveled east/west street in the Foothills area.
Apparently, few Glendale council members live in this area and could comprehend the consequences of this misguided use of Honolulu Avenue. How can a public works director expect for a daily use of 13,000 autos to be squeezed from two lanes into one? There is already an extremely hazardous situation at Orangedale and Honolulu avenues (the site of the new Trader Joe’s), with near accidents happening many times a day.
