Just Imagine — winning the Bob Hope Humor Award! The three pigs on the 34th La Cañada Flintridge Rose Parade float did fly on Jan. 2. Ably driving were Pam Wiedenbeck and Arlene Buchmann, along with Randy Bartos, the computer animator.
Among the many people who contributed to the success of “If Pigs Could Fly” were the construction crew, the site set-up and clean-up trolls, the tent kitchen workers who kept all workers fed and happy, the check-in desk folks, the Floatique sales group and — most of all — the many decorators who did a fantastic job of applying flowers, seeds, corn husks and many other organic materials. How gratifying to see so many community members of all ages working together for a common goal and actually enjoying the opportunity to visit and get to know each other.
A big thank you to all our members who annually contribute their dues to the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association, thereby insuring a new float every year. We are especially grateful to those of you who made extra contributions, allowing us to purchase more flowers and to try some innovative decorating this year. Thanks also to the board of directors who meet monthly and have the responsibility of raising and managing the funds to build the float.
