Blaze damages La Cañada home

December 28, 2011

Flames ravaged a home on the 5100 block of Oakwood Avenue on Monday evening, but the homeowners, Katherine and David Hensley, escaped without injury.

Katherine Hensley said that she and her husband were at home when the fire started suddenly, and called 911 before leaving the house. Los Angeles County Fire Station 82 responded to the call at around 10 p.m., and six station crews arrived to extinguish the fire, according to Captain Adrian Murietta of the station.

The fire started in the attic, according to Hensley, and it spread throughout the house, traveling above the ceiling. She said that fire fighters told her that the fire might have been caused by wiring or other electrical issues, but that only a full investigation would reveal the cause.

The fire also jumped out of a chimney into rooms and onto the roof, said Lt. Angela Shepherd of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. An arson team was dispatched to investigate the fire, but Shepherd said there was no indication of foul play.
