La Cañada Troop 501’s first annual firewood sale is in full swing at the La Cañada Farmer’s Market. The scouts have been selling fragrant pine and oak logs on Saturdays since the start of the month and will continue to do so during December and possibly beyond.
The firewood promises to be both a great value and an environmental benefit, as it comes from downed trees in Angeles National Forest. In the wake of the 2009 Station fire, Scouts have gathered, cut and split wood from these downed trees so that they make high-quality firewood. Proceeds from the sale will help the troop fund future adventure trips and community service projects, such as an upcoming 10-day hiking trip to Philmont, N.M.
