If I were to craft the resume for the ideal school board candidate, it would define a seasoned school parent who also has had both personal and professional relevant experience. I would want someone with a strong financial background who would understand the highly complex school budgeting process and could explain it to our community. I would want a board member with strong written and verbal communication skills, one who is forthright but will listen to the needs and concerns of our parents and students.
My ideal candidate would be passionate about education and children and would have an extensive understanding of our schools, our district and the many support organizations throughout our community. And I would want someone who has been in my shoes as a parent within our district, someone who appreciates how great our schools are but is fully aware of the challenges that still face us.
