In the middle of his trial, Philip Sifuentes, the man accused of killing La Cañada resident Helen Huff in October 1997, pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge as well as to three other felony charges related to the case. He was sentenced to 11 years-plus in prison, but when credited with time served, was expected to be released in late 2007.

The La Cañada Flintridge Planning Commission endorsed the idea of the city passing a law to ban gaming arcades. The commissioners suggested the ordinance should include wording that would also allow up to three coin-operated games in any local establishment, as long as a conditional use permit was granted.
