Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Robert Porter, assigned to Station 82 in La Cañada Flintridge, sustained a broken leg and soft-tissue injuries when an out-of-control Jeep traveled into the station’s parking lot and pinned him against a wall. The 52-year-old driver of the Jeep said she didn’t know what caused the vehicle to get away from her.

In step with a Los Angeles County ordinance that was enacted to reduce the number of house fires, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council approved a ban on wooden roofs in new construction and when at least 20% of an existing roof was being replaced. Mayor Pro Tem Joan Feehan cast the lone vote against the ordinance, saying she didn’t think it was the city’s role to tell its residents what type of roofs they should put on their houses. “This smacks of Big Brother,” Feehan said.
