Tologs open with Mission League win

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 13, Chaminade 5: The Tologs won their Mission League opener on Thursday at Cal State Northridge behind a clean sweep in doubles, led by Diane Gutierrez and Jackie Fernandez (6-4, 6-0, 6-4).

In singles, Emily Katz led the way with a 6-1, 6-1 showing for Sacred Heart (2-1).

La Cañada 13, Temple City 5: The Spartans started Rio Hondo League play out on the right foot, sweeping the Rams in doubles on route to a 13-5 victory Thursday. La Cañada's doubles teams of Alison Chang and Linnea Frazier (6-0, 6-1, 6-4), Emily Swanson and Serena Zheng (7-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Rachel Wong and Lynn Gilmour (6-2, 6-2, 7-5) all swept. Sawa Keymeuler won two of her three sets, 6-0, 6-2, 1-6, as the Spartans (4-5, 1-0 in league) were without their No. 1 and 2 singles players, Sydney Fischel and Sharon Kim. Fischel reinjured a pulled muscle.


La Cañada also played Monday, falling to Arcadia, 16-2. The Spartans will continue Rio Hondo League play Tuesday when they host South Pasadena at 3:30 p.m.

Marymount 17, Mayfield 1: Bryann Evans notched the Cubs' lone win in a tough nonleague loss. With the defeat, the Cubs dropped to 2-5 overall.


La Cañada 20, La Serna 6: The Spartans opened play in the Villa Park Tournament Friday with a pair of commanding victories. The Spartans (7-3) defeated La Serna by 14 goals, as Allen Morovati had six goals, Symeon Stefan had four and Allen Geller had three goals. Wolfie Paulson returned from an injury for La Cañada and had nine saves.

It was La Cañada's second blowout victory of the day, as it dropped El Dorado, 20-2, in its tournament opener. Stefan and Chase Borisoff both scored three goals in the game. Trevor Roszkos and Stuart Bogle both had three. Paulson had eight saves.

The Spartans will open Rio Hondo League play Tuesday when they host Temple City at 3:30 p.m.

Webb 15, Flintridge Prep 8: Webb ended the first quarter with a 2-1 lead Friday and added to it, scoring five straight goals on the Rebels in the second quarter. Flintridge Prep cut the lead to four by the end of the third, but then saw Webb score five quick goals to start the final quarter.

Carlo Sivilotti had three goals for Prep (9-6, 1-1 in Prep League), while Ethan Vandeventer and Alex Blaine added two goals each.


Mayfield 252, Azusa 264: The Cubs opened league play on Tuesday with a solid win over Azusa at the Azusa Country Club.
