Ten Years Ago
A new skate park opened on the former Foothill Intermediate School campus with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. It was to be a two-month pilot project, with the La Cañada Unified School District providing the site and the city of La Cañada Flintridge picking up the tab for the costs involved.
Twenty Years Ago
The LCF City Council voted unanimously to approve revisions to an existing law governing the use of wheeled toys. The council agreed that inline skaters should be allowed to travel on and across Foothill Boulevard, but that skateboarders would not. A few weeks later, after hearing from skateboarders, the council reconsidered its decision and said they could be on Foothill too, but not in shopping centers where signs were posted that prohibited skateboard use.
Thirty Years Ago
With enrollment dwindling, the La Cañada school board took a tentative look at possibly closing down Foothill Intermediate School on Cornishon Avenue as a middle school campus. The facility was built in 1950 and was one of the oldest in the LCUSD.
