Fifteen members of the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, AM and 23 Key clubbers from St. Francis and Franklin high schools April 2 to participate in the worldwide Kiwanis One Day of community service, weeding, trimming, raking and cleaning up the grounds around Lanterman House.

Boxes of oranges and lemons were picked for distribution to local homeless shelters, a full dumpster of weeds and garden waste was collected and the historic house's kitchen garden was planted with vegetables and herbs, which will be harvested to benefit needy families.

When work was finished, the Kiwanians hosted the hardworking teens at a barbecue picnic and pool party.

The Flintridge Guild event raised funds for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Founded in 1901, the hospital is a source of hope and help for nearly 200,000 seriously ill, disabled and injured children each year.
