Portantino to host film production hearing

March 16, 2011

State Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (D- La Cañada) is leading a hearing on Friday in Pasadena about the effectiveness and economic impact of state tax credits that encourage filmmakers to keep shooting in California.

Sacramento passed tax credits 18 months ago to slow the trend of American films and television shows being shot overseas to cut costs, a phenomenon referred to in the industry as “runaway production.”

Portantino was appointed in February to the California Film Commission and serves on the Assembly’s Select Committee on Preservation of California’s Entertainment Industry.
