Online Networking — Saturday, Feb. 12, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Women At Work in Pasadena presents one of its series of technology workshops with “Introduction to Linked In.” Instructor Pixie Boyden will go through the steps of using this networking tool in a small classroom setting at 3871 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena 91107. Attendees must register for a Linked In account before attending the workshop by visiting www.linkedin.com and clicking “join today.” Seat is limited. Birding, Backyard Chickens and Bees, Companion Planting — Saturday, Feb. 12. Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada, offers three classes on Feb 12. The beginner birding class led by Joe Kertes runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Bring binoculars and walking shoes. Cost is $20 ($10 for Descanso members). From 10 a.m. to noon, John Lyons teaches “Backyard Chickens and Bees,” providing the basics to turn your backyard into a mini-farm. Cost is $25 ($15 Descanso members). Learn about companion plants that are ideal for rose gardens in a class taught by Descanso’s Amanda Everett at 1 p.m. Advance registration is required for all three classes and can be made at the Visitor Center or by calling (818) 949-7980.

Music Appreciation — Tuesdays beginning Feb. 15, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dr. Ted Stern, professor of music at Glendale Community College, conducts this off-campus music appreciation class for adults. This semester will cover “Film Composers and Other Related Stuff.” Classes are held at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave., Montrose. Cost for the 15-week course is $90. Parenting children and teens with special needs — Thursdays, beginning Feb. 10, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA will host this free class, which is open to the entire community. The parenting class is designed to identify and support families with special needs children (i.e. ADHD, bipolar, oppositional defiant disorder, etc.) and to teach parenting skills for these unique families. Topics will include: identification and diagnosis, differentiating genetics, trauma, and environment, stigmas and shame of the special need parent, and much more.
