Dog found, mystery remains

A 67-year-old woman whose dog went missing from her parked car at the corner of Viro Road and Baptiste Way in La Cañada Flintridge on Dec. 1 has been reunited with her pet poodle — the dog apparently dropped off a short time after its disappearance at the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, said Det. Todd Sams of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

The woman had left the dog between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. in a 1993 Honda Accord with its windows partially rolled down while she conducted a tutoring session. She returned to find the dog missing, according to a police report.

The woman told investigators that a man claimed he had seen two young men reach into the car and take the dog, which the report described a seven-pound poodle with bad teeth and a blue collar.

Deputies have so far been unable to locate the witness or the person who dropped off the dog, so it's still unclear whether the poodle was dog-napped or was grabbed by someone who may have feared that the dog was left neglected in the car.

For now, "The important thing is she got her dog back," said Sams.

Float association selling tickets to parade, game

In hopes of drumming up more financial support for this city's entry in the Rose Parade, the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association is selling tickets to the parade and the Rose Bowl Game that follows it.

"I have Rose Bowl tickets at $225 each located from the 20th yard line to the end zone," said David Moffett of the association. "I also have the best seats for the Rose Parade at $100 each located on Colorado across from the Norton Simon Museum just below Channel 5."

To purchase tickets, log onto http://www.lcftra.org, print out the order form found there and mail it to Moffett at the address found on the form. Or he can be e-mailed directly at vomoff@hotmail.com or phoned at (818) 952-8456.

Also for sale are parade programs, priced at $10. These are available through the website or at the float construction site at 4524 Hampton Road between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Honk at the gate for entry and ask for Jim Geoghegan.

More goods for sale include T-shirts, sweatshirts, scarves, aprons, caps, beanies, patches, pins, mugs, cookbooks, license-plate frames and other gift items. Proceeds from the sales of all items will help pay for the cost of "3-2-1 DIG," the 33rd consecutive La Cañada Flintridge float in the annual New Year's Day event.

Volunteers needed to prepare float

The La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association has a need for volunteers to help finish the city's float in time for its New Year's Day appearance in the Rose Parade. Minimum-age requirement for volunteers is 13. All volunteers are expected to perform whatever job is necessary, including flower preparation and clean-up duties. There are also openings for volunteers at the "Floatique," where collectible gift items are for sale.

Sign-up forms can be found at The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce office, 4529 Angeles Crest Highway, Suite 102; The La Cañada Valley Sun, 727 Foothill Blvd., and online at http://www.lcftra.org.
