Seatbelt enforcement up, through Nov. 28
Law enforcement agencies statewide, including the California Highway Patrol, are on a heightened enforcement campaign through Thanksgiving weekend to increase seatbelt use, according to Capt. David Silversparre at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign will target the estimated 1.25 million Californians who do not buckle their seatbelts while in a moving vehicle.
"Sadly, the holidays, which for many are the happiest time of the year, is also one of the deadliest and most tragic," Silversparre stated in a news release.
The minimum cost for a seatbelt violation for unbuckled vehicle occupants over age 16 is $142. If a child under the age of 6 is not properly secured, the parent or driver can receive a ticket for $445 for the first offense, plus one point on their driving record.
