City leaders must first weigh whether to grant the shuttered location's prospective new operator a letter of public convenience or necessity, which would be sent to state officials for consideration in the licensing process.
ABC regulations allow for three liquor-sale sites in the proposed store's census tract, according to a report by city senior planner Fred Buss, but five already exist — Alcorn Liquor, La Cañada Imports, Vons, Ralphs and Trader Joe's.
Foothill Liquor had been in operation for decades before its closure, but the location still carries with it a city conditional-use permit for alcohol sales.
Olhasso will lead Memorial Day Parade
La Cañada Flintridge City Councilwoman Laura Olhasso will serve as grand marshal of the city’s 2011 Memorial Day Parade, LCF Chamber of Commerce President Pat Anderson announced at Monday’s City Council meeting.
Anderson also said that “La Cañada Flintridge: The American Dream” will be the theme for the Chamber-run Fiesta Days celebration during Memorial Day weekend.
Fiesta Days will begin on May 28 and culminate with that Monday’s Memorial Day Parade.
Olhasso was first joined the City Council in March 2003. She will be up for re-election in March 2011.
The first Fiesta Days event was held in 1973. Last year’s celebration included a community breakfast, classic-car show, YMCA run, musical performances and an outdoor barbecue, as well as the culminating parade down Foothill Boulevard.
Rescuers find lost forest hiker
Montrose Search and Rescue workers on Monday made quick work of finding a hiker lost in some of the Angeles National Forest’s most rugged terrain.
Scott Gossard, 44, was last heard from Friday night and reported missing by his mother early Monday morning.
