Halloween rings the bell early

The rain clouds did their part, staying away just long enough for parents and kids to flock to La Cañada Elementary's biggest fundraiser of the year, the Halloween Haunt.

It was an all-day affair at La Cañada Elementary as the festivities got rolling on the school's campus at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at 4 p.m.

La Cañada Elementary students enjoyed the carnival atmosphere as moon bounces and other games lined the playground.

It wasn't all child's play, as parents tried their hand in the event's silent auction. Spa packages, restaurant gift certificates, iPods and digital cameras were all up for grabs to the highest bidder.

Bragging rights were also on the line as people entered one of their own carved pumpkins into the day's pumpkin carving and decorating contest. The best dressed also won the Halloween Haunt costume contest, with ribbons awarded by age level.

Kids were able to get a head start on their trick-or-treat candy stash as plenty of candy and home-baked goods were available. The "Creepy Cakewalk" gave everyone a chance to add a cake to their Halloween treats. Korean barbecue was also served for those looking to satisfy their stomach instead of their sweet tooth.
