Two false alarms at La Cañada banks during week

Sheriff's deputies responded to silent alarms that inadvertently were activated at two banks in La Cañada Flintridge during the past week. The first incident occurred on Sept. 23 at approximately 3 p.m. at Gilmore Bank in the 4500 block of Rinetti Lane, said Sgt. Ray Harley. The second alarm was accidentally set off on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Citibank in the 700 block of Foothill Boulevard.

"Once in a while, [the alarms] do get accidentally activated by an employee, but also, like with any electronic, there might be a glitch in the system itself," Harley said.

The run is the major fundraiser of the year for the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge. In conjunction with the event, organizers are partnering with Allied Waste Services and the L.A. Food Bank for the food drive that gets underway during the weeks preceding the run.

"In past years, food donations have exceeded more than 10,000 cans, and this year the Center hopes to double that number by organizing the biggest food drive La Cañada has ever had," said Megan Nordvedt, executive director of the Community Center.
