Ten Years Ago

The gazebo in Glenola Park on Angeles Crest Highway was dedicated to the memory of the late John W. "Jack" Hastings, a former mayor of the city who died of cancer on Sept. 17, 1997, just a few weeks shy of his 69th birthday.

 

Twenty Years Ago

With the sale of 650 tickets, the La Cañada High School Spartan Boosters Club raised more than $32,000 at its "Fiesta Mexicana" held on the school campus.

 

Thirty Years Ago

A Maas-Rowe carillon system was installed at Church of the Lighted Window (today known as La Cañada Congregational Church) and named the Ned Burr McKenney Memorial Carillons after the church's late minister emeritus. A dedication service was held on Oct. 5, 1980.

 

Forty Years Ago

The La Cañada High School Music Department invited the community to an old-fashioned ice cream social and band concert to be held on the campus, in the large patio area in front of the gym. Vocal and instrumental performances included barbershop quartet music, light classics, pops and show tunes. Tickets were 75 cents each.

Fifty Years Ago

One or more intruders climbed through the skylight of the La Cañada Youth House kitchen on a Saturday night in the early fall of 1960 and made a clean getaway with two cans of Coke, 42 candy bars and 10 nickels.
