Can you smell the roses? How about the crown?

Tryouts for the 2011 Rose Queen and Royal Court kick off Saturday, Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. at the Tournament House in Pasadena. More than 1,000 young women are expected to compete for one of seven spots on the Royal Court.

Candidates must be at least 17 years old by Dec. 31 and not older than 21 before Jan. 3, 2011. They must be seniors in high school or enrolled as full-time students in an accredited school or college in the trustee area of Pasadena Community College or the trial annex area in Eagle Rock/Highland Park.

The Court will be announced on Oct. 11 and the Queen will be announced on Oct. 19. The 2011 Rose Queen and Royal Court will reign over the 122nd Rose Parade and 97th Rose Bowl Game on New Year's Day.
