"We also hope to raise money through a raffle of an iPod Nano, a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award mini bike, tickets to the Long Beach Aquarium and other items which will be put toward the cleanup of the Gulf," said FSHA junior Charlotte Hook.

College-sponsored Merit Scholars from La Cañada named
Three La Cañada residents are among the more than 2,800 winners of National Merit Scholarships announced Wednesday that are being financed by colleges and universities. All of the local winners attend La Cañada High School.
Silas W. Hughes received the National Merit Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering Scholarship. Hughes is considering a career in mechanical engineering. Olin College is in Needham, Mass.
Two National Merit USC Scholarships are going to La Cañadans Emily B. Kim, who is considering a career in communications, and Robert T. Jones, who plans to study medicine and research.
Coed basketball for grades 1-7 at YMCA
Sign-ups are underway for the Y-Winners Summer Coed Basketball program at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. The program is for children entering grades 1-7 and has three divisions: grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-7.
