Council gives awards, installs its 2010-11 officers

On May 10 the La Cañada Flintridge Coordinating Council presented the 47th Annual Les Tupper Community Service Awards during a program held in JPL’s von Karman auditorium and hosted by NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. David Gallagher, deputy director of the Astronomy and Physics Directorate at JPL, made the presentation of the 2010 Les Tupper Community Service Awards to resident Joe Thompson, the Kiwanis Club President Nick Berkuta representing the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, and La Cañada students Nicole Morrison, Estrella Sainburg and Malia Mailes.

The Coordinating Council concluded the Tupper Award ceremony with the installation of its new slate of officers and directors for the coming year. They include Sheree Butts, president; Clyde Hemphill, vice president; Irene Mendon, secretary; Fraser Draper, treasurer; Joyce Ruygrok, community forums; Vance Haemmerle, community calendar; Jeb Long, website; Lynda Gordon, Becky Gelhaar, Chuck Sambar, Bob Covey, Martha Burns, Tim Scheck, Char Adams, Carl Christensen, Rosalind Hilton, Brian Hummel and Sue Beatty.

LCF Republicans to hear John Colbert

John Colbert, Republican candidate for the 29th U.S. Congressional District, will address the La Cañada Flintridge Republican Committee on Monday during the group’s dinner meeting at Beckham Grill, 77 W. Walnut, Pasadena. Colbert’s wife, Tamara, who was instrumental in the formation of the Pasadena Patriots, part of the “tea party” movement, will also attend.
