Verdugo Hills Group of the Sierra Club — May 26, 7:30 p.m. The Verdugo Hills Group of the Sierra Club will present a program about efforts to save the last open space on the Los Angeles River from private development. Refreshments and social time begin at 7 p.m.; the program at 7:30 p.m. Community Room, Montrose Citibank, 2350 Honolulu Ave., Montrose. Parking is available at the rear of the building.

Book Fair at Palm Crest Elementary School — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24-27. The Palm Crest PTA presents Mrs. Nelson’s Book Fair. The school keeps 20% of all dollars spent at its annual spring book fair, held on campus, 5025 Palm Drive, La Cañada. On May 27, during the school’s Open House event, the book fair will be open additional hours, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

‘Tach Bash’ with Battle of the Bands — May 22, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Members of La Cañada High School’s club known as TACH (Teens for the Advancement of Childrens Hospital) are throwing their annual bash at Memorial Park, 1201 Foothill Blvd. There will be live music, a battle of the bands, a couple of disc jockeys and a performance by the LCHS Chamber Singers. Food will be available and there will be a raffle and silent auction. Admission is free, but TACH members are collecting items for the Adolescent Medicine’s Gang Prevention Program. Suggested donations include new school supplies, such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, markers and college rule note paper; also welcome are new articles of clothing suitable for summer wear, such as T-shirts or shorts. All proceeds from this event benefit the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Adolescent Medicine Division. For more information call Flintridge Guild of Childrens Hospital at (818) 952-7978.
