29th Golden Gate Bridging ceremony

Girl Scouts from La Cañada joined more than 5,300 girls from six states at the annual West Coast Girl Scout tradition, Golden Gate Bridging.

Troops ceremoniously crossed the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday, in a daylong event in San Francisco’s Presidio. Bridging is a traditional Girl Scout celebration of accomplishments where girls make the transition from the younger girl to the older girl program. .

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for troops. The girls have worked hard to earn their Bronze award and meet the Bridging requirements. The journey across the bridge was very meaningful as the girls took in the natural beauty of the ocean, the mountains and the bay with thousands of other girls.

The celebration included not only crossing the bridge, but a full day of fun in the Presidio. More than 50 vendor booths will host activities including music and dancing, crafts, karaoke booths, games and kite flying. Participating organizations include American Red Cross, American Heart Assn., the San Francisco Zoo, United Studios of Self-Defense, NASA Ames Space Cookies, San Francisco Giants, California Academy of Science, the SJ Tech Museum and more.
