Acting Class for Teens — Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 18 to June 16, 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Sam Ross will teach college level acting fundamentals to high school students on the campus of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. Mom's Club of the Foothills — Today, 10 a.m. Mom's Club, a support group for stay-at-home mothers will have pediatric dentistry as the topic for this month's meeting. Visitors and children welcome. Verdugo Hills Group of the Sierra Club — May 26, 7:30 p.m. The Verdugo Hills Group of the Sierra Club will present a program about efforts to save the last open space on the Los Angeles River from private development. Refreshments and social time begin at 7 p.m.; the program at 7:30 p.m. Community Room, Montrose Citibank, 2350 Honolulu Ave., Montrose. Parking available at the rear of the building.

An Evening with Nancy Pearl— Today, 7 p.m. Friends of the Pasadena Public Library presents "the talk of librarian circles," Nancy Pearl, author of "Book Lust" and regular commentator on NPR's Morning Edition. Pearl will speak in the Jack Scott Room at the PCC Community Education Center, 3035 E. Foothill Blvd., Pasadena 91107. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person, $10 for Friends of the Pasadena Public Library and $5 for PCC students with identification. Learn about drought-resistant landscapes — Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m. La Cañada Valley Beautiful is hosting a dedication of the La Cañada Public Library Demonstration Gardens, 4545 Oakwood Ave., La Cañada Flintridge. The public is invited to tour the gardens and hear about sustainable landscape. California-friendly plants are labeled.
