Ten Years Ago: A man on federal parole for bank robbery held up the California Federal Bank in the 700 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada and then took deputies from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station on a 12-minute chase before surrendering in Los Angeles.

Twenty Years Ago: Dianne Feinstein, then a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the California governor’s race, paid a visit to the JPL-Caltech Child Educational Center in La Cañada as part of a day-long sweep through Southland child care facilities.

Thirty Years Ago: Ed Arnold, KABC-TV’s Eyewitness News sportscaster and special assignment report for “Good Morning America,” was the keynote speaker at the annual Community Prayer Breakfast at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club.

Forty Years Ago: “Spring Swing” was the theme when a field of 100 women competed in the 1970 Highland Invitational Golf Tournament at the La Cañada Country Club. The players represented 25 country clubs from around Southern California.

Fifty Years Ago: Golf professional Jerry Barber of La Cañada claimed 10,000 silver dollars for winning the Tournament of Champions sponsored by the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. When asked what they would do with the money, Jerry and his wife Lucille said they were moving their family from a home on Oakwood Avenue into a new house at the corner of Vineta Avenue and Houseman Street, so they were sure they’d find ways to spend the winnings.
