Hillgren scholarship applications open
La Cañada High School graduating seniors who live in the city are invited to apply for one of two $1,000 Mary Ellen Hillgren scholarships to help meet the costs of attending a four-year college.
The scholarship fund was established 15 years ago by family and friends of Hillgren, a past president of Assistance League of Flintridge and National Assistance League who believed strongly in public education.
Applications are available at the school’s counseling office and must be returned there by May 14.

Tonight’s mixer at Kobeissi Properties
The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce April mixer is scheduled for tonight at Kobeissi Properties, 711 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. Hours are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Myanmar topic of Kiwanis travel film
Patricia Keith and Sean Cassidy present their travel film “Burma Reflections” when the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada hosts its fifth installment of this year’s Kiwanis Travel Adventure series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Flintridge Prep Auditorium, 4543 Crown Ave., La Cañada. Tickets are available at the door for $8.
Preprogram entertainment will feature Tom Burrows on piano and vocalist Wendy Alane Smith. Proceeds from the series help fund the youth programs of the La Cañada Kiwanis Foundation.

Hospital to hold blood drive April 22
Verdugo Hills Hospital will hold a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 in the hospital’s fourth-floor Council Room.
Donors must be in good health; be at least 17 years old; bring photo identification; weigh at least 110 pounds and not have received tattoos within the past 12 months. Prior to arrival, donors are asked to drink plenty of water and eat a nutritious meal.
As a thank-you gift, participants will be given the choice of a Starbucks gift card, super donor T-shirt, or a coupon for a pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.
