CCY gets gold at Y-Champs

The Crescenta-Cañada YMCA Dragons finished off their Y League season by facing off against eight other Southern California Y teams this past weekend. Harrison Thai made a huge contribution to the Y-Champs win by breaking three Southern California Y records with his swims in the 13-14 Boys 200-yard freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. His time of 1 minute, 46.99 seconds in the 200 free broke a Southern California YMCA swimming record set in 1972.

The 11-12 years old boys’ team of Samuel Jo, Kris Abramyan, Eric Park and Kevin Park were less than half a second short of breaking the 200 free relay record with a time of 1:45.39. In the girls’ division, Yvette Kim (9 years old) and Iva Icheva (13) continued their reign of the pool, coming in first in all of their events.

Swimming his final Y-Champs was Chris Park (17), a senior at Ribet Academy. A 10-year veteran of the Dragons, Chris finished in style, taking first place in the 100 butterfly, as well as posting third place finishes in the 50 free and 100 free. Chris will be passing the torch to a talented group of younger swimmers.
