“We never really set a [monetary] goal,” Angelica said. “Of course we want to raise as much as possible but an important part of what we do is community awareness, letting parents know that this fabulous hospital is right in their own backyard.”
La Cañada resident and Guild member Jennifer Hull knows first hand the important resources available at Childrens Hospital. Her 8-year-old foster daughters, Josie and Teresita, have received extensive medical treatment at the facility.
The staff creates a loving, caring environment where she and her family feel welcome, Hull said.
“We have befriended all the nurses, all the staff, and obviously all of the doctors. They just treat you like family,” Hull said. “I feel like everybody in that hospital treats you like they are treating their own family It is just a treat to be a part of something so amazing.”
In its inaugural year, the American Girl Fashion Show featured seven girls per show. This year, 53 girl models from Burbank, Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada, Pasadena Altadena, San Marino, Hermosa Beach, Pebble Beach and Phoenix, Ariz. will walk the catwalk dressed as an American Girl Doll character.
Among the models and attendees will be children who are current or former patients at Childrens Hospital, Angelica said, some of whom will share their stories with the audience.
Also an the agenda is an appearance by up and coming Disney star, Anna Margaret. At the conclusion of the event, the girls in the audience will be asked to come on stage in recognition of their own strengths and capabilities, Angelica said.
“It works perfectly for us because besides raising money for Childrens Hospital every girl who comes to the door, our goal is to empower her with the knowledge that what makes her truly beautiful is her kind and giving heart,” Angelica said.
“Our models are little girls, our guests are little girls. Little girls can make a difference.”
