Edward M. Fox

Edward M. Fox passed away at his home in La Cañada on Nov. 24, 2009, after a six-month battle with brain cancer.

Ed was born on April 24, 1933, in Evanston, Ill., and he grew up in Rockford, Ill. He attended Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wis., where he excelled in athletics and academics. He took pride in being a “Double Domer,” as he held both a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., known for its campus’ golden dome. After graduating from law school in 1957, Ed served as a law clerk for a federal judge in Hammond, Ind. In 1959, he accepted a position with the U.S. Treasury Department as a trial attorney for the Internal Revenue Service, based in Los Angeles

He met his wife, Ellie, in Long Beach and they were married on July 13, 1963. He joined the law firm of Donnelly, Clark and Chase in Los Angeles in 1967, where he became a partner specializing in tax law. In 1985 he joined the firm of Burke, Williams and Sorensen, where he continued to work in tax law and on mergers and acquisitions, and eventually developed an additional expertise in estate planning. After leaving that firm in 2004, he continued to practice law part-time.

Ed served on the advisory boards of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose in Fremont, Calif. In recent years, he served on the board of the Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel Valley. Ed was especially proud of the legal services he provided to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Ed is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ellie, four daughters, and two grandsons: Claire Fox Balestrieri (Peter), Moira Fox, Bridget Fox, and Heather Fox Busquets (Oswaldo). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel Valley, 5626 N. Conrad Josias

Conrad “Connie” Josias passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 23, 2009 due to congestive heart failure. He was 79.

A 43-year resident of La Cañada, Connie and his wife Betsy raised their three children in their family home on Hillard Avenue. An avid tennis player, he had been a member of Flint Canyon Tennis Club until recent years.

Born June 12, 1930 and raised in Washington Heights, N.Y., Connie received degrees in electrical engineering from NYU in 1951 and Brooklyn Polytech in 1955.
