In all, the Crusaders bombarded the Spartans defense with 254 passing yards and 217 rushing. Running completed 14 of 19 passes for three touchdowns, an interception and 229 yards, adding 35 rushing yards for two more score; Kurian rushed for 68 yards on seven carries and caught three passes for 56 yards while Rodriguez rushed for 116 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. Bush had 5 catches for 82 yards.

For La Cañada, Moore finished his last game as Spartan quarterback by completing 13 of 28 passes for 123 yards and an interception; the La Cañada offense crossed midfield only twice and came within 22 yards of scoring Moore’s 46-yard pass to Dodge Williams placed the team within striking distance late in the third quarter. However, the Spartans turned the ball over on downs.

Despite the loss, Yoder said he was proud of his team, pointing out his boys overcame some obstacles and adversity in order to be in the playoffs.

“Considering the fires, a flu scare … and having a game cancelled, these guys have been through a lot this season,” he said. “They reacted and they responded. For a first-year head coach, I couldn’t ask for a better team.”
