One injured in car crash

October 22, 2009|By Seth Amitin

A three-car crash on the 1600 block of Verdugo Boulevard Wednesday morning that extended into the parking lot of the Goldstein’s Bagels resulted in one person being taken to the hospital.

Glendale Police Department and Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station personnel were on the scene working together as the street is Glendale’s jurisdiction and the parking lot is in the CV station’s territory.

“The Saab was driving west on Verdugo Boulevard and the Mini Cooper attempted to make a left-hand turn into the parking lot,” said Officer Tom Broadway of the Glendale Police Department. “The Cooper made the turn into the lot when the Saab had the right of way.”

The Saab then jumped the curb and stopped only after hitting a car parked in Goldstein’s Bagels parking lot, he said.

The driver of the Saab was transported by ambulance to Verdugo Hills Hospital.

“She complained of pain in her head, neck and back,” said Broadway. “She was just there for procedural care, my guess is she’ll be home tonight with her husband.”

The names of the drivers were not released.

The owner of the parked car was Jim McCarthy, of Montrose, who was in Goldstein’s Bagels for breakfast as part of his morning routine at the time of the crash.

“I was inside the shop when one of the workers said ‘check this out,’” McCarthy said. “I didn’t even hear the crash.”

McCarthy said the crash occured some time around 9 a.m. Though his car was involved in the crash, it was relatively unscathed.

“The Saab jumped the curb,” McCarthy said. “I’m amazed she didn’t damage [my] car more.”
