50th season of travel series to launch

The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada has announced it will host its 50th annual Travel Adventure Series beginning Oct. 17, allowing armchair travelers to visit the world by enjoying a filmed travelogue.

“Bhutan: The Cloud Kingdom,” presented by Tom Sterling, will be the kick-off event for this year’s offerings.

On Nov. 21 Mary Lee and Sid Nolan present “Cruising the Eastern Mediterranean”; On Feb. 20, Clint and Sue Denn will present “Egypt’s Treasures & Cruising the Nile”; on March 27, “Inside Iran Today” will be presented by Aryana Farshad; on April 17, “Burma: Reflections on a Hidden Land” will be presented by Patricia Keith and Sean Cassidy; and on May 15, John Holod and Jodie Ginter’s “The Great American Rocky Mountain Adventure” will wrap up the series.

“Each of these interesting and stimulating programs is featuring a popular travel destination,” stated Wendy Alane Smith, publicity chairman for the event.

All of the programs were produced using the finest digital cinema techniques and are presented by the original filmmakers relating their personal experiences, Smith said.

The programs are presented in the Flintridge Preparatory School Auditorium, located at the corner of Crown Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. Season tickets are $40 and tickets for individual performances are $8. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be pre-show entertainment starting at 7:10 p.m.

The proceeds from this Adventure Series help fund the Youth Programs of the La Cañada Kiwanis Foundation. This non-profit foundation sponsors youth service programs in the La Cañada schools, including Key Clubs at La Cañada High School and Flintridge Prep and K-Kids at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge. More than 300 young people are involved in these programs and they join the Kiwanis Family in annually, providing thousands of hours of volunteer service to the community.
