Second school board forum announced

Local Republican Party groups consisting of the La Cañada Flintridge Republican Club, The Republican Club of the Foothills, and the Crescenta Valley Women’s Federated, will hold a La Cañada school board candidate’s forum at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the La Cañada Flintridge Community Center, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive. The event is open to the public. The six candidates for three open seats will provide their views on governance of the city’s schools and answer questions posed by members of the audience.

As reported last week, the La Cañada PTA Council will also be hosting a school board candidates forum. That event is planned for 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the La Cañada High School Auditorium, 4463 Oak Grove Drive.


The school board election will take place Nov. 3.

Trails Council given $10,000 grant

Southern California Edison, the electricity provider for the city of La Cañada Flintridge, awarded a $10,000 grant to the La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council for the upkeep of local hiking and horse trails.

David Ford, regional manager for Edison, was on hand to present the check to Trails Council Vice President Randy Strapazon at the city council meeting on Monday.

Strapazon said the money will be put to good use for projects such as rehabilitating the Cherry Canyon trail.

The La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that is dedicated to developing, preserving, promoting and maintaining local and regional trail systems.
