Ten Years Ago

More than 700 people turned out at Paradise Canyon Elementary School on a Saturday afternoon in September 1999, at the invitation of the campus PTA, to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.

Twenty Years Ago

Learning that wild peacocks living in the upper Angeles Crest area of La Cañada were being shot and killed, and that some people were using illegal traps to move them out of the area, the city council banned trapping the big birds for a period of one year.


Thirty Years Ago

During a special communion service, the Rev. John H. Pruessner was installed as the new rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church in La Cañada Flintridge.

Forty Years Ago

Approximately 20-25 La Cañada High School students burned copies of a campus rules and regulations packet and then gathered outside the administration office to demonstrate their objection to new rules, including one regarding unexcused tardiness.

Fifty Years Ago

Although such action was still a few years away, the La Cañada Board of Realtors went on record in support of forming a La Cañada unified school district, from K-12. As of 1959, the local public elementary schools were in the La Cañada school district, while the junior high was under Pasadena Unified rule and local high school students attended Pasadena’s Muir High.
