Play ball

The Rebels finally have a level playing field.

After months of construction, Flintridge Prep unveiled their redesigned—and level—on-campus softball field and exercise yard. The football team was the first team to break it in, holding their first home practice of the year on Tuesday.

“[This project] turned out to be fantastic,” said Prep Athletic Director Alex Rivera. “As you can see, the field is for our athletic program and especially our softball team—our [softball] coach Julie Jaime is going to love it. No more bad hops.”

The school is most excited for having a proper field for football practice and softball games, but regular maintenance of the field is the school’s goal for the next year.

The project started almost immediately after the school year ended. Construction on the field was visible throughout the summer from the 210 Freeway.

“It started out with Peter Bachmann,” Rivera said. “He believes in balance here on the Flintridge Prep campus, between academics and athletics. A couple years ago they started the project with the library and since they finished that the next project was the athletic field, which was way overdue.

“For a small campus, this is a great facility.”

The softball field is named after Coach Jim Wood, who was the athletic director for Flintridge Prep for 33 years before Rivera.
