This is exciting news for all Trojan fans — on Sept. 10 the USC Thornton School of Music will hold the party of the century (and a quarter), its 125th anniversary celebration. The celebration began in August and will be kicked off with a special buffet supper on campus at the Town and Gown facility.

“This is a momentous milestone for a storied institution,” says Rob Cutietta, dean of USC Thornton. “USC Thornton — which was founded long before the birth of the region’s film and recording industries, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera or any of the Southland’s other leading music ensembles or cultural institutions — is truly the cornerstone of culture in Los Angeles. Since its inception in 1884, the school and its acclaimed faculty and alumni have played a pivotal role in the music industry internationally.

“In marking Thornton’s 125th Anniversary, we will reflect on the school’s illustrious history, and, in the true spirit of USC Thornton, will look ahead to the next 125 years and plans to help ensure it will continue its cutting edge leadership role.”

On Sept. 12 the L.A. Opera opens its 2009/2010 new season with Donizetti’s “L Eliser d’ amore” or “The Elixir of Love.” This single event truly officially opens the Los Angeles social season.

On Oct. 3 guests will be donning black tie or fancy western wear in order to attend The Autry National Center of the American West’s 22nd annual gala that celebrates the spirit, “Women of the West.”

So as you can see, we’re gearing up for a great social season and there will be plenty to read here in the coming weeks.
